Hey Dr. dave, I'm not sure if you did this one. What if in 9balls - 8 and 9 is the opposite end from one another. 8 closer to the rail near the corner pocket and 9 ball on the end rail toward the middle against the rail. While cue ball is in the middle of the table. What would you do?
Bro says that if he was making continuous breaks he would be on a world tour. Proceeds to make continuous breaks
Everything from 5:17 to 5:45 look like clear double hits to me 🤔. Or call it a continuous all-over-the-ball shot but mmm
Hi champ.. i hope you can read and reply quick for this answer.. which part of arms you use when back-swinging and forwarding the cue? Is it forearm or upperarm? Hope you read this🙏🏻
The forearm/wrist/grip should remain relaxed during the stroke. The upper arm does all the work.
Any reason why you chooses 12.4, they also have 11.8 with lesser deflection from your tests, why not that one?
Also since you shifted from Z shaft, it would have made sense to go 11.8 is not it?
When I switched, only the 12.4 was available, and I liked that the CB deflection was the same as my previous Z2 (so I wouldn’t need to change how I aimed with sidespin). Although, with SAWS, I can now easily recalibrate and aim accurately with any cue: billiards.colostate.edu/faq/sidespin/aim/saws/
Anybody else getting aroused?
I’m currently at a bar waiting for a bunch of drunk people to finish playing. And was doing some randomn googles of Dr Dave and came across this. Too loud to watch right now. But I’m looking forward to watching this later.
I hope you enjoy it. I certainly enjoyed being part of it. PS: I hope you showed the drunk people how to play. :)
One more question...if you have only the 8ball you pot it and also the cue ball is poted it's a foul or a loss of game?
Also if again you have only the 8ball and the cue ball is poted it is a foul or you loose?
@@kostastsingistras6699 If you scratch when shooting the 8-ball, you lose. FYI, all detailed rules can be found via the links here: billiards.colostate.edu/resources/rules/
@@DrDaveBilliards thanks a lot!
@@kostastsingistras6699 You're welcome. I aim to swerve. :)
I know that it is generally understood that the cue ball spin does not affect the path of the cue ball immediately after contact as the cue ball will always travel along its tangent line the instant after contact. However, every action has an equal and opposite reaction. Just as the cue ball's spin rate is reduced slightly as a reaction to the spin transfer on the object ball, wouldn't Newton's third law of motion require the cue ball to be "thrown" slightly off line in the opposite direction of the direction that the object ball is thrown due to the friction force between the two balls? In this video of the straight on shot, as the object ball is thrown to the left, it seems that the cue ball is ever so slightly thrown to the right. It would be extremely minimal, but speaking in terms of physics, wouldn't this be true?
Yes. The CB feels an equal and opposite reaction to the throw effects on the OB. See these two videos: ua-cam.com/video/QA7FyS6tWdY/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/9TokaN0ghSA/v-deo.html They cover the topic in detail, including how it affects (or doesn't affect) pool shots.
03:05 What's a shot??😮.
Yep. Absolutely perfect!
Just one thing this is pool your playing not Billiards.Billiard is a completely different game which only involves three balls 2 white(one with a black spot)and one red ball.
"Pool" is "pocket billiards." Most of the pool physics principles are the same in carom games like 3-cushion billiards.
That is an excellent video thanks. I'll be putting into practice all that you have taught me h 14:15 ere with a view to winning more games.
These principles are very useful, especially if you like to win.
In one of the game I play with friends. It is a lost if I pocket the 8 together with opponent balls. I don’t know where that rule comes from. Also, scratching with 8 left also results in a loss
Your friend is using a version of "bar rules:" billiards.colostate.edu/resources/rules/bar-rules If you instead want to play under the "official rules" of pool, see the videos and info here: billiards.colostate.edu/resources/rules/
This can work without impact. It doesn't slide because the weight of the woodpecker creates a moment which locks it due to the friction, during the oscillation that force is removed and the sleeve can momentarily fall. There are a lot of similar mechanisms that use this locking method such as some wood working clamps, this is how they get coarse adjustment before tightening.
… but it wouldn’t be a Woodpecker without the impact. :)

Hello DrDave I just completed this 45 ball challenge. I have just started a youtube channel over 1 week ago : Poolroom I mentioned you in the description. It would be awesome if you would give a shoutout to me to kickstart my channel. Kind regards Poolroom
thanks
You’re welcome. I aim to swerve. :)
Any opinion on all the different makers of carbon fiber cues? Do you really think some are way superior than others or just about all the same? What do you think?
They all share the same main advantages here: billiards.colostate.edu/faq/cue/carbon/ But some have less CB deflection than others (per the videos at the link). I prefer a cue with less CB deflection (like the Predator Revo) based on the info here: billiards.colostate.edu/faq/cue/low-squirt/
This really is a gem Doc.
I’m glad you liked it. FYI, I have many more videos dealing with break technique here: billiards.colostate.edu/faq/break/advice/ Enjoy!
Hi Dave, do you know if the Revo shafts are well suited to play Balkline/StraightRail carom billiard ?
I don’t play carom billiards, but I would think the advantages apply equally well: billiards.colostate.edu/faq/cue/carbon/
@@DrDaveBilliards Thanks for the reply. I wonder mostly about the suitability of a Revo when it comes to do carom type hardcore massés and piqués. I dont see how it could be a problem since there are no ferrules on Revos. Low Deflection shafts that have ferrules are at risk of breaking with massés. Also the 11.8mm type is quite big for carom, even for 3-cushions.
@@JeezVince I agree that the Revo would probably be fine for power massés.
@@DrDaveBilliards Thanks Dave for always giving some of your time for our questions. We love you Sir.

Could you please share the details about the sand paper so I can buy the same exact ones? Thanks in advance Dr Dave!
Alll details are in the document linked here: billiards.colostate.edu/faq/cue-tip/replacing/
Gotcha, thanks!!
@@jggrskate94 You’re welcome. I aim to swerve. :)
So any other pockets than your own = a spot = losing a turn but not a foul ? Unless you also pocket your ball in the pocket on the same shot then you continue ?
Correct.
What a different soft tip, medium tip, and hard tip?
See the videos and info here: billiards.colostate.edu/faq/cue-tip/hardness/
Thank you, Uncle dave 😊
I want to see the new slow motion camera that does a trillion frames per second!
The only problem is it would take forever to playback the videos. :)
@@DrDaveBilliards yep, sadly 😓
I also wanted to know: Stripe player's turn, his last ball is at the edge of a pocket, surrounding by solid balls, if he touches the solids, it's a foul right? Even if he is kinda "forced" to it
He is not forced to hit into the stripes. He can play an intentional foul away from the balls and let his opponent (solids) address the problem. If neither player wants to address the problems, a stalemate can be called for a re-break.
You used a piece of paper to help the break? I’m confused lol
… just to visibly simulate and show the effects of gaps in different places in the rack.
“ alright got my squirt accounted for ✅.” “ s.i.t. ✅.” “C.i.t✅.” “Bridge length✅.” “ nice easy stroke.” *Completely misses shot*😂😂😂
I bought a Poison cue 150 euros. Beautiful thing but has a 13 mm tip and I used to playing 11mm. Im shocked at how ridiculous the spins are to make because sometimes hitting it hard it will not draw at all... Made the tip more round and works just a bit more but I think pros play with smaller tip and plays way better isnt it?
See the video and info here: billiards.colostate.edu/faq/cue-tip/size-and-shape/
I just now realized frozen hit was always allowed. Only not in snooker 😂
Correct. See the videos and info here: billiards.colostate.edu/faq/foul/frozen/
This is the best video so far! All the rules are explained! Thank you, it saved me from an argument with friends! Could you also do the rules of black ball/English pool? I noticed people in bars are messing the rules of the 2 games!
I have never played Black Ball / English Pool, so I'm probably not the best person to do a video on the rules for that game. Sorry.
What happen's if you misspocket the 8ball?
If the 8-ball is pocketed at the wrong time or in the wrong pocket, you lose the game.
My grandpa loved billiards, I wish he was here to see this channel
That is nice of you to say, for me and your grandpa. Thanks.

Hello, I'm Nakata from Indonesia. I really like your videos, I feel like I want to hone my billiard skills and be more enthusiastic about focusing on the world of billiards, because I really like playing billiards since I was 10 years old, but I am always hindered by equipment where I don't have billiard sticks. which is adequate which makes me feel very difficult to further improve my playing skills, if I may ask you to help me🙏🙏, because I believe asking for help does not mean we are weak or incompetent. This usually shows a high level of honesty and intelligence and I also believe A strong individual is one who asks for help when he needs it. and I apologize if I'm not good at English 🙏🙏🙏
I hope you can find better equipment to use. I don't send out free stuff, but maybe you can find a local supplier or pool room that might have something they can give you (or that you can work for). Good luck!
maseé kick is the worst option 😅

Hi. Dr. Dave im a beginner in pool. And i have some question. What weight you recomend me for a pool stick, and diameter. And i have sweety hands what kind of grip you recomend me. Best regards Juan.

Does the Air/Break Rush shafts with their Uniloc Steel-lite QR joint pair or work with the standard Uniloc QR butts? Wanting to get an Air Rush and wanting to put the shaft on another Uniloc butt to break with
You should probably ask Predator to be sure. I did once put my Revo on my Air Rush butt, and it took me a while to figure out why I was having so much trouble jumping the ball. The tip makes a big difference!
When you get a chance, could you try putting the air rush shaft on your p3? Want to see if it works with the different joints (Uniloc Steel-lite vs Uniloc). If it is compatible, was thinking of buying the air rush and using its shaft on another butt for my break cue since I would assume jump shafts and break shafts are fairly similar in stiffness and tip. Would be nice to get a break cue and jump cue for the price of the jump cue
@@VetteWay2Fast I just checked. It works fine.
Great good to know, thanks! Wonder how it works as a breaker with a heavier butt. One way to find out I guess…
Einstein was an amazing pool player they say. He was exceptionally well at 3 rail banks.
The following quote is attributed to him: “Billiards is the well-developed Art of thinking ahead. It is not only a game, but first and foremost a demanding sport, which requires good stamina, the logical thinking of a chess player and the stable hand of a concert pianist.”
Jumping off the table,,,,are we going to put the ball in spot or automatic ball in hand to the next ball,,,,,,,?
Jumping a ball off the table is a foul, giving ball in hand to opponent. The ball is not spotted. It is out of play, just like a pocketed ball.
"oh I play regular rules, same as anyone" And then they proceed to be inconsistent, use scoop shots, hit your ball first, play on the kitchen etc. I hate playing in a bar, and more so when you can tell they've had "enough" to drink.
I wouldn't call "bar rules" "regular." Any decent player in a bar should want to play under "official rules:" ua-cam.com/video/c-4URzvawhs/v-deo.html
@@DrDaveBilliards exactly! It frustrates me to no end when people think their house rules or specific bar rules are universal, and then get frustrated when I actually stick to WPA.
@@andrewgonzalez7143 it is a bit odd that some people are not willing to play the game under the official rules. Most people are usually willing to play most games under their actual rules. Go figure.

Thank you, and you’re welcome.
I recently adjusted my stance because my forearm was not vertical or in the shot line. Is it normal for my playing to have worsened by a lot? Will it profit in the long-run? I am not sure how important keeping your forearm vertical and in the shot line is.
Any change can cause worse play at first, but a vertical forearm (with a still shoulder and elbow during the stroke into the ball) can definitely help.
